- Pick a direction: ACT to SAT or SAT to ACT.
- Enter your score. ACT Composites run from 9 to 36 here, and SAT totals from 590 to 1600 in steps of 10.
- Read the equivalent score and its range. Switching direction converts the result back.
- Took both tests? Choose Compare both, enter your ACT and your SAT, and see which one is stronger on the same scale.
Only have a practice test? Check a practice test's Composite first.
How ACT to SAT conversion works
ACT and the College Board released a joint concordance in 2018, built from students who took both tests. It gives each ACT Composite a single SAT equivalent and a range of SAT scores that line up with it. Going the other way, every SAT total in that range converts to the same ACT score.
ACT is clear about the limits: "The most recent ACT / SAT concordance tables were released in 2018 and are not updated annually," and "A concorded score is not a perfect prediction of how a student would perform on the other test" (ACT).
The rank shown with each result is ACT's current national rank for that ACT Composite (ACT national ranks). What a score means for your college list is covered in what counts as a good ACT score.

This SAT figure comes from the ACT/SAT concordance tables that ACT and the College Board released in 2018. ACT says the tables aren't updated every year, and they were published before the Enhanced ACT changed how the Composite is calculated. Use it as a close guide, not an exact match.

Converting after the digital SAT and Enhanced ACT
Both tests have changed since 2018. The SAT moved to a digital, adaptive format, and the Enhanced ACT now averages only English, Math and Reading for the Composite. No newer official concordance has been published, so the 2018 tables are still the reference ACT points to.
That's why the converter always shows a range and a note, and never calls the result exact. For how the two tests differ today, see how the two tests compare today, and for what changed on the ACT, what changed on the new ACT. Deciding whether to send a score at all? See when to submit your ACT score.
The same caution applies to Compare both. When your two scores land on the same ACT number, the tool calls them about the same. A one-point gap is flagged as close, since a concorded score isn't a perfect prediction. Only a gap of two or more ACT points is called a clear edge.
Worked examples
- ACT 28: SAT 1310, range 1300 to 1320. A 28 is at the 91st national rank.
- SAT 1350: falls in the 1330 to 1350 band, so it converts to an ACT 29.
- SAT 1400 vs ACT 31: a 31 converts to 1400 (range 1390 to 1410), and 1400 sits inside that range, so the two scores are about equal.
- SAT 1250 vs ACT 28: 1250 converts to an ACT 26, two points below the 28, so the ACT is the stronger score to send.
Frequently asked questions
What is a 30 ACT on the SAT?
A 30 ACT concords to 1370 on the SAT, with a range of 1360 to 1380, on the official 2018 ACT/SAT concordance.
What SAT score equals a 36 ACT?
A 36 ACT concords to 1590, with a range of 1570 to 1600. Every SAT total from 1570 to 1600 concords to a 36.
Is the concordance still accurate for the digital SAT?
No newer official tables have been published. ACT says the 2018 tables aren't updated annually, and they predate both the digital SAT and the Enhanced ACT's three-section Composite. Treat the result as a close guide, not an exact match.
Can I convert my ACT superscore?
The concordance was built from single test scores, so converting a superscore gives only a rough guide. Check how each college reads superscores.
Why do several SAT scores give the same ACT score?
The SAT total runs from 400 to 1600 in steps of 10, while the ACT Composite runs from 1 to 36, so a band of SAT scores lines up with each ACT score.
Do colleges use these conversion tables?
ACT and the College Board released the tables together so colleges and students could compare scores across the two tests. Each college decides how it compares them, so check its admissions guidance.
Should I send my ACT or my SAT score?
If a college accepts either, put both on the same scale and send the stronger one. Choose Compare both in the converter: it turns your SAT into an ACT equivalent and shows the gap. When the two land within a point of each other, treat them as a tie and check each college's own guidance.

How this page is built
Tables last checked:
Cedrick Reese built the ACT to SAT Converter for TutoringForAct.com from the official 2018 concordance tables that ACT publishes. The ACT to SAT values and ranges were entered from ACT's table, and the SAT to ACT direction is worked out from those same ranges, then checked against every row of ACT's separate SAT to ACT table so the two directions can't disagree. Compare mode uses the same table: it converts your SAT to its ACT equivalent and reports the gap in whole ACT points, calling a one-point gap close rather than a win because the concordance isn't an exact prediction. The page is rechecked if ACT or the College Board releases a new concordance, and the rank column updates with each new ACT national ranks table.
